Surprise trip was Vegas

About a month ago Michael called and told me to take off work on July 22nd & July 25th but he wouldn't tell me why. So for the last month I've been asking all kinds of questions but the answer was always "we could" or "we might" but never would give me any other information than that. Last week I started getting really antsy about what I needed to pack, what time we would be leaving, if there was anything special that I needed to know but he still wouldn't spill it.

I finally told him on Monday that I really wanted a clue so he told me that "we might" be flying or getting on a train or bus or maybe even a boat. Yeh not really the clue that I was looking for but I took it. Tuesday I asked if I could have another one and he said we would be leaving at 3:00 in the morning so that meant I would have to get up at 2:00 am. I was really starting to get excited about this whole ordeal so by Wed I ask what kind of clothes did I need & he said it would be really hot and there would be lots of walking involved. Thursday he wouldn't give me anymore information so before I left for work that morning I laid out all the clothes that I thought I would need. When we got home from work we began to pack I took out some of the clothes that I had in my stack because after talking to him I figured I was packing way more than I needed. I made sure everything including my purse was ok to go through the scanners at the airport because that was one of the clues.

Friday am the alarm goes off at 2:00 and we didn't go to bed Thursday night until 11:30 so that was less than 3 hours of sleep. I was in the bathroom starting to get ready when I heard his phone get a text. I ask him if he just got a text and he said "yeh, well there another surprise." I then started to get nervous because I had no idea who would be texting him at 2:15 am. I'm ironing my clothes when we brings his cell phone and shows the text to me from Wayne Schmitty & it said are you up? I ask who was Wayne Schmitty and he said someone that you get to meet today. By this time I'm really starting to get mad because I'm so worried that he's taken me with someone that I don't know and I still don't have a clue where we are going so that just made me even more nervous.

I go to the bathroom to brush my teeth when I hear high heel shoes on the kitchen floor so by this time I'm litterally shaking. Michael hollers at me to come meet someone, I stand in our bedroom door, looked at him and said I don't want to meet anyone and almost to the point of crying. He said come on and meet these people. I walk around the corner to find Tommy (my cousin) and his wife Carissa and I started screaming. I said it doesn't matter where we are going because we are going to have so much fun. Poor Tommy is standing there and said are we going somewhere? I said you don't know? He had this deer in the headlight look and said no, all I know is Carissa told me to get up and let's go partying since today is my birthday. Since everyone was ready we put our luggage in their car and headed north.

On the way we didn't really talk about where we were going just the fact that we were going somewhere and how Michael & Carissa had this entire thing planned out. We got to Flyaway so we knew that we would be flying somewhere but still didn't know where. As we approached the counter we found out our destination was Las Vegas so we proceeded through the security and got to our gate about an hour early but it gave us time to eat breakfast. We ended up splitting to take our flights because we were using "buddy" tickets. Tommy & Carissa took the straight flight to Vegas & Michael & I got on the Kansas City, MO flight. We had a 4 hour layover there but that was ok, the time went by pretty good because we had the laptop and we talked to the ladies at the counter. We found out one of them actually moved to TN her senior and went to MTSU to college, they told us they felt pretty sure we'd be able to get on the next flight to Vegas but to come back up to the counter about 20 minutes before take off and they would let us know. When they started calling for section A we went up to the counter and she told Michael to give her the tickets we had and then she gave us a B ticket. We didn't get to sit together but that was ok because I could look back and see him. When we arrived at the airport we called "Wayne" Carissa and told her we were there so by the time we got to the hotel her & Tommy were waiting at the front door for us.

Michael & Carissa checked into the room, we took the luggage upstairs to our room and then took off walking. Michael & I couldn't believe how much it had changed in the last 17 yrs. Everything looked totally different, they now allow kids in the casino's which we thought was totally weird because when we where there before you had to be 18 to enter and I even got carded. There is still lots of hussle & bussle but oh my goodness we had so much fun. I still can't believe they pulled this off for our 40th birthday but oh the fun times we shared and the memories that we made. Pics will follow as well as some other details but I wanted to type what I had on my mind :)

We were able to go to the Criss Angel illusion show on Sat night and it was pretty good but obviously we couldn't take any pics inside the auditorium so I took this pic of the advertisement on the front of the Luxor.

This was a super neat replica made with Jelly Belly jelly beans inside New York New York.

Inside Planet Hollywood was this really neat waterfall.

In front of the gorgeous Bellagio hotel.

Tommy & Carissa acting silly in front of the waterfall at Caesar's Palace.

Gilley's was in front of Treasure Island and we ate there on Sun night.

I really could download a ton of other pics but figured I shouldn't flood this post with them all. This was the best birthday present that Michael could have ever given me. Tommy & Carissa are so fun to go on vacation with and we all decided that we would do something like this again.
